CHARACTERISTICS OF SHIN SPLINTS

Characteristics of Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome):

This is an inflammation and irritation to the muscles and tendons around your tibia. Pain is experienced along the inner border of the shin bone (tibia), where the muscles attach (periosteum).

Shin splints are caused by repetitive stress and overuse in the muscles of the lower leg. Shin splints can occur after sudden or increased changes in physical activity; activity surface changes; increased frequency of activity.
